Prom 2011 Rocks the Boat
Pounding music, dance floor, neon lights everyone is looking forward to Prom 2011. It’s almost Prom season and Lahser students are getting excited. The only downside there may not be enough room for everyone.
This year’s Prom will be held on the Ovation, a yacht docked in Detroit. Lahser Prom has never been held on a boat before. There are already whispers in the halls of plans and potential dates. Although Prom 2011 stirs up some major controversy.
“According to Coast Guard Regulations only 300 people may attend Prom including chaperones,” comments a Junior Student Council Rep. Many seniors are concerned they may not be able to attend an event they have been looking forward to for a long time. With over 300 students attending prom last year the junior student council has been crunching the numbers in order to make everyone happy. “We have done the math and if everything goes as planned everyone will be able to get tickets,” said the Junior Rep.
In order to make everything fair, the junior student council has come up with a system of seniority, a well know tradition at Lahser. This system is set up to ensure that seniors will have the best chance to get tickets to their final dance at Lahser. “The order is senior-senior couples, junior-junior couples, and finally senior/junior-underclassmen/guests,” replied Junior Rep “We put this in place to make sure everyone is happy.”
“I just hope we can all get tickets, I’m not missing my senior prom and I’m not going without my girlfriend,” comments Luke Dauch. The Junior Student council Representatives wants to reassure everyone that there will be enough spots being that the junior grade has a significant smaller amount of students than the senior class of 2010. Prom 2011 has caused some debate but the Upperclassmen don’t want to miss out on this once in a lifetime experience.
