Coach Graves Sits down with Knightlife
By: Austin Burchill
It was 1994 and the gymnasium floor at Lake Orion High School was filled with seniors who would soon be graduating. Sitting in that crowd was Lahser Basketball coach, Duane Graves. It was that very hardwood where Duane starred as the captain of Lake Orion’s Varsity basketball team for 4 years. Duane played for Lake Orion from 1990-1994 and had the time of his life. When asked what he loved most about those unforgettable years, he said, “It’s wasn’t only the basketball itself that I loved, it was the feeling of being apart of something. The feeling of belonging to a team, and the comradery, and the endless amount of fun we all had as teammates.” Duane is a very intelligent basketball coach who this year believes he has all the right pieces to be a solid basketball team. When asked about the upcoming year, Duane said “This is going to be an interesting season because our biggest strength could also be our biggest weakness, which is always a fascinating phenomenon. I think we’ll be okay in the end and have the type of year, no matter what our improvement level is, that we will be able to keep continuing to build on.” Duane and the Lahser Varsity Basketball team look to start the season off with a bang against cross-city rival Seaholm at 7:00 on December 6th.
